A Gunner

My mission is to introduce Gunners to Cayman. So far I have trained the bar staff at Grand Old House, Sunset House, Lone Star and now Brooklyn.

Gunner you ask…

Courtesy of Wikipedia:

A gunner is a cocktail served in more prominent clubs, bars, golf clubs, especially those popular with expats, in Hong Kong and other parts of the Far East and India formerly under British colonial rule. It consists of equal parts ginger beer (or lemonade) and ginger ale with a dash of Angosturabitters and sometimes a measure of lime cordial or lemon juice.[1] It is regarded as a non-alcoholic drink, although Angostura bitters is 44.7% alcohol by volume. It is noted for its refreshing qualities, especially in warm weather.[2]

The gunner has been described as “the only real Hong Kong cocktail”.[3]

Alberto

Well rain stopped play this week. Morning play, lunch play, play during our cricket match and now our sponsored walk. It has been torrential and this weekend a tropical depression 350 miles west of the Cayman Isles sitting just off the Yucatan Peninsular has just become the first named storm of the season. That’s right storm ‘A’ in May. Tropical Storm Alberto.

The Hurricane and storm season does not start until June 1st and while theoretically tropical storms and hurricanes can come at the beginning of the season they are unusual and do not normally begin until the sea has warmed up during the summer months. Heat from the sea is the fuel for the storm! So a storm this early is symptomatic of rising global temperatures.

Now when I say it has rained quite a bit…

It has rather flooded our garden… mind you pretty much everywhere looks like this at the moment.
